Enter your email and choose a password. We'll send you a verification code — takes about 30 seconds.

Choose your Color-Animal handle
Pick from randomly generated handles like Azure Fox or Scarlet Hawk. This is your permanent, anonymous identity on Fauna. No real name, anywhere.

Set up your profile
Optional: write a short bio (AI-scrubbed so it reveals nothing identifying) and tell us what topics you care about. Helps personalize your feed.

Verify your email
Enter the 6-digit code we sent you. Confirms the email address belongs to you.

Verify your US government ID — required to post
A photo of your US driver's license, state ID, or passport — plus a quick selfie to match the face. Handled entirely by Stripe Identity, one of the world's most trusted identity verification systems. Fauna never sees or stores your document, your real name, or your photo. We only learn: ✓ verified, ✓ one person, ✓ American.
Privacy note: We store a one-way cryptographic hash of your document number to enforce one-per-person — not the number itself. It is mathematically impossible to reverse a hash back to your real ID. Stripe holds all the actual verification data under their own strict privacy controls.
